I have never ever been able to wear a pink lip. During my last attempt, I went for this very pink color and upon sight immediately my big sister told me it looked like I had “Pepto Bismol” on my mouth. Needless to say, I haven’t tried a pink lip since.
Scrolling one day, I saw this post by Hello Beautiful created with the help of June Ambrose’ MUA Camara Anique (@camaraanique). She was using Curlfriend by the Lip Bar (Available at Target, $13.00).
There was no doubt, Ma’am, that I had to try it. First off, I love June Ambrose. Her style is always fly and well put together. Her lips looked amazing in the photo as well.
When Camara started, I was thinking my lips are flesh tone. How is this going to work? Mistaken was I, because Camara worked that out in the very beginning.
Follow me in my attempt to re-create this lip that works for most skin tones to achieve the ultimate pink lip.
MUA Tutorial: Create the Perfect Pink Lip
- Prep first.
The perfect lip starts with the right prep. To start, I’m using the Basalt Exfoliating Scrub (Atara Bella, $15.00) and Basalt Original Lip Balm. (Atara Bella, $15.00). Basalt is a Vegan and Cruelty-Free lip brand that uses organic and natural ingredients.
Rubbing a pea size amount of the Basalt Exfoliating Lip Scrub on my finger, I make sure to gently massage the scrub on my lips. The effects are cooling and soothing, and I had to taste it. It tasted like a Lolli Pop kinda, but more like savory Vanilla. I didn’t feel so bad tasting it because its made of natural oils, and made my lips feel so smooth. I followed up with the Basalt Original Lip Balm for a two pack punch for hydration.
2. I lined my lips with a lip liner.
Since my lips are flesh toned, I definitely needed to find a shade that goes well with this lip color and compliments my skin. I chose a Dark Brown Natural color. ELF LIP LINER AND BLENDING BRUSH (Target, $3.00) The undertones melted into my skin immediately. I think this lip look like its going to pop. I “feathered” in the lip liner, to make sure the pink tone of Curlfriend really stood out.
3. Here goes Curlfriend.
When I put Curlfriend on, I LOVED IT! It blended so well, it makes a nude lip for me. Something which I have never really had before. It doesn’t look extremely pink because I have such red undertones, but I also have darker flesh-toned lips without makeup. So, I guess it is actually pink. :-). The hue is definitely not as dramatic as my last experience. Curlfriend did blend with my tone without any issue.
Lip Bar is my new “Go-to” for a pink lip that does not look like I drank from my medicine cabinet. Thank goodness. Check out more Lip Bar colors here.
